Down East AIDS Network and the Health Alliance Volunteer Community Liaison About Down East AIDS Network and the Health Alliance Down East AIDS Network and the Health Equity Alliance create a world in which all people are valued and celebrated, and health disparities such as HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C are nonexistent. By facilitating collaboration, education, advocacy and action DEAN and the Health Equity Alliance empower those communities most impacted by HIV and Hepatitis C to improve their health and wellbeing and affect social and cultural change. Position Description DEAN is looking for a team of energetic and committed individuals to assist in the development and implementation of an innovative, creative, high-energy and evolving peer prevention, education, outreach, and condom distribution program. The Community Liaisons will be part of a small, tight-knit team of volunteers who will help to coordinate a community-based, peer-run prevention program that includes providing HIV/STI prevention education messages and safer sex materials in the Bangor area and at LGBT community events. Regular Duties and Responsibilities Participate in the design and preparation of outreach activities. Participate in the development of safer sex educational materials to be used at outreach events. Perform outreach. This includes handing out condoms, providing prevention-education and HIV/STI testing information, and information about services offered. Encourage people to get tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Provide outreach at LGBT community events and programs Participate in team meetings to help build a cohesive, mobile, engaged, and visible outreach program. Position Requirements The most successful Community Liaisons will be natural community leaders. Must be creative and energetic; theatrical skills helpful, and be able to work collaboratively in a team setting. Community Liaisons will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills; have the ability to engage in candid conversations about sex and sexuality; be knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS prevention. Familiarity with the local LGBT communities needed. Ability to volunteer one Friday or Saturday night for outreach events and attend monthly team planning meetings.
